Russell Watson lyrics - Someone Like You (Feat Faye Tozer)

Il tempo passa senza che
Lo passo mai insieme ate
Ma ti pensavo sempre
Nei sogni tu con me
Per me il mondo finira
Se non ci fossi tu
Ovunque vai
Voglio che sai

If you need a friend or a lover
Or a place that you can hide
I will always be there
Even though my hands are tied
I know deep down inside

If you'd consider what we shared
Maybe you'll see
You're all that I need

Chiamami amor

All my life
I've been searching
For someone like you

There's never been a better time
There's never been a better place
For you and I together here
Alone and face to face
Oh I'd do anything
If you'd just let me in your life
Whatever it takes
I won't make the same mistake again

Chiamami amor

All my life
I've been searching
For someone like you

Could it be (could it be)
The brightest star (The brightest star)
So close yet still far away (Let's get it on slowly)
Don't you know I've fallen for you
Baby I'm calling for you
Right here right now

Chiamami amor
All my life
I've been searching
For someone like you

Mulan

Mulan is another of my favourite heroines in the Disney movie, with Mushu the dragon (Eddie Murphy provided the voice for Mushu) =p definitely a dragon with an attitude! :) I enjoy his wit and funny comebacks.

Some of Mushu's memorable quotes from the movie:

"Now THAT's what I call Mongolian BBQ!"

"Ooo...I think my bunny slippers just ran for cover..."

"I ain't bitin' no more butts!" LOL

"Let's go kick some hunnie-buns!"

Wikipedia article on the film: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulan

Hua Mulan or Fa Mulan (花木兰 huā mù lán) , a heroine in an all male army, is described in a famous chinese poem, known as Ballad of Mulan. When I was young, my grandmother used to tell me the story (whether history or legend) about Fa Mulan who went to war on behalf of her father. She dressed up in boy's clothes and put on her father's armor, and joined the army disguised as a boy.

'Reflection' sung by Lea Salonga in the Disney movie, and also by Christina Aguilera is a wonderful moving song. Great meaningful lyrics, thought-provoking especially when Mulan asks:

Who is that girl i see?
Staring straight
Back at me
Why is my reflection
Someone I don't know?

I believe that for everyone, at some point in their lives, these questions will pop up. Soul searching, getting to know oneself, finding out who we really are. Deep, yes, but then again, do we know who we really, truly are? Or do we just see a reflection of ourselves, not our real persons? As we grow in life, our reflections change together with us. As life goes on, the way we see ourselves also change.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas! One of my all time favourite Disney cartoons. A native American heroine, beautiful and gutsy :) The movie is an adaptation on the real life story of Pocahontas, but is a fictionalised romantic version. Based on records, in real life, Pocahontas had a friendship of some kind with Captain John Smith, and may have saved him from death more than once. In the cartoon, I love the theme song - Colours of the Wind. Not only is the tune beautiful, but the lyrics touch the heart and are very meaningful. Yes, I know Disney cartoons have "happy ever after" endings, and that is what I love about them. Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, The Little Mermaid, Tarzan :p and many others, even the classic black and white Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Looney Tunes cartoons - my favourites. I am very much a child at heart, and enjoy cartoons at my advanced age. To me, they put a smile on the face, generate a true laugh and help lighten the spirit.

I love the instrumental combination, it provides a moving feel of nature in the music.

For me, I prefer the version of the song sung by Vanessa Williams, the emotion and passion comes through in the music for me. I love other songs sung by her, like Save the Best for Last, The Sweetest Days.

And I agree, in life, we enjoy and take our time, slow and easy, savour every pleasure, overcome any obstacles in our path and think solutions not problems (a very good piece of advice I will always treasure).

We save the best for last! :D

Lyrics:

Colors Of The Wind - Vanessa Williams

You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name
You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You learn things you never knew
You never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?
Or ask the grinning bobcat why he grinned
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once never wonder what they're worth
The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon?
Or let the eagle tell you where he's been
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

How high does the sycamore grow
If you cut it down, then you'll never know
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper-skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
And need to paint with all the colors of the wind

You can own the earth and still
All you'll own is earth until
You can paint with all colors of the wind.

And when she danced ...

Ahh this song brings back good memories. I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was in secondary school. It caught me completely, even then, at that young carefree time, I really enjoyed sentimental love songs and pop. Up to this day, these songs make me feel warm inside. For me, they have a special kind of magic, which touches my heart, makes my soul sing along, my emotions come alive, from deep within, I feel my spirit answering the call of the song. Silly me =p yes, but that is who I am.

In school, I really enjoyed music by Kenny G, Dave Koz, New Kids On The Block NKOTB, Whitney Houston, Debbie Gibson, Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue, Kool and the Gang, Richard Marx, Glenn Medeiros, The Culture Club, Eurythmics, Cyndi Lauper, Celine Dion, Chicago, Peter Cetera, Starship, Paula Abdul, Gloria Estefan, Tina Turner, Lionel Richie, The Bangles, George Michael, Michael Jackson, Babyface, Boyz II Men, James Ingram, Luther Vandross, Diana Ross, Julio Iglesias, TLC, Michael Bolton, Rick Astley, Stevie Wonder and David Foster. Dreamy music was my cup of tea, and still is even now :)

When I listen to "And when she danced", it makes me feel like dancing freely, as if no one is watching, only the one I love. Enjoying every movement, the sway of my hips, the patterns of my feet, my body moving in rhythm with the song. I don't dance well, but in my imagination, I would love to dance gracefully, fluid, the song a part of every cell in my body.

The song is from the "Stealing Home" soundtrack, the love theme from the 1988 movie starring Jodie Foster and Mark Harmon.

Here is a link to the movie:

Found the music video for this song, with David Foster and Marilyn Martin, and clips from the movie "Stealing Home":

Simply beautiful!

I found this touching youtube movie where this song is combined with movie clips from the 1968 Italian screenplay for Romeo and Juliet (Romeo e Giulietta) starring Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting. Having read this famous Shakespeare play several times, watching the youtube movie made it come alive. I always cry at the ending of the tragic love story. A wonderful moving combination, the song and movie clip go very well together.

There have been many versions, theater and film productions, in different languages of Romeo and Juliet, and although I have not watched all of them, this Italian production brings the play to life for me.

MVs with wu xia and costumes

I have always loved wu xia movies :) Grew up watching them on TV and my family used to rent the VHS video tapes. Some of the wu xia series were stretched over a 100 episodes, but following the storyline was fun. I used to look forward to following my grandmom to the video tape rental store every week. Enjoyed watching the flying swordsmen, special wu xia powers, the ability to freeze someone by tapping a certain area of the body, different clans, ahhhh. Those were the days. I think I prefer the old wu xia movies compared to the new ones. Even though the special effects were not as good, they had to rely on their acting skills. The music soundtracks were good too. Truly a walk down memory lane for me when I catch an old wu xia movie or series. Wu xia action movies will always have a special place in my heart!

With artistes coming up with wu xia themes for their music videos and also historical costumes, I get to enjoy both the music and the MV. Here are a few of my favourites:

Translation by Ling and input from sui_generis

Your tears glisten with weakness admist the pain

can bai de yue wan wan gou zhu guo wang
The ghostly white curved moon hooks onto the past

ye tai man chang ning jie cheng le shuang
The night is too long and has crystallised into frost

shi shui zai ge lou shang bing leng de jue wang
Who is in the attic [filled with] cold hopelessness/Who is in the attic coldly despairing?

Rain gently bounces off vermillon window/Rain slowly playing on the vermillion window

wo yi sheng zai zhi shang bei feng chui luan
I have (written) my life story on paper (only to be) blown into a mess by the winds

meng zai yuan fang hua cheng yi lv* xiang
The faraway dream has become really faint/fades away like the memory of a fragrance

*this is romanized as lv, but pronounced as lu

The wind has dispersed the image of you

ju hua chan man di shang ni de xiao rong yi fan huang
Chrysanthemum destroyed A whole floor of pain your smile has become faintly yellow

hua luo ren duan chang wo xin shi jin jin tang
People are heartbroken when the flower falls My thoughts lay quietly (aside)

The north wind is chaotic the night is still young your shadows can't be cut

tu liu wo gu dan zai hu mian cheng shuang
Just leaving me lonely doubled (when I stand) by the lake

hua yi xiang wan piao luo le can lan
The flower has already come late, drifting down brillantly

the wilted morals an unbearable fate

chou muo du jiang qiu xin chai liang ban
(If you are) sad don't cross the river worries* broken into two

*this literally means splitting the top and bottom of the word "chou" apart into two words "qiu" and "xin"

pa ni shang bu liao an yi bei zi yao huang
In fear that you can't get back on shore and will sway for a lifetime

shui de jiang shan ma ti sheng guang luan
Chaotic sounds of horse hoofs (in) whose territory?

wo yi shen de wu zhuang hu xiao cang sang
My armory shouts out the wear of time

The sky is starting to light up your voice is sighing

yi ye chou chang ru ci wei wan
A night of disappointment is (said) in such a roundabout way

Andy Lau & Kelly Chan - I Don't Love You Enough

I Didn't Love You Enough
wo bú gòu ài ni

wo xiang wo bú gòu ài ni wo bú céng wàng le zì ji

I think I didn't love you enough, I never forgot about myself (I was selfish)

méi nà me quán xīn tóu rù suo yi huì yī bài tú dì

Never put in my wholehearted effort, that is why I suffered a crushing/ruinous defeat

wo xiang wo bú gòu ài ni wo wàng le ni de yòng qíng

I think I didn't love you enough, I forgot about your strong affection for me

méi bàn fa chóng lái yī cì yě zhi hao tīng tiān yóu mìng

No way to start again, not even one chance, yet I cannot fight fate (it is in God's hands)

bù néng zài méi you yuè liàng de yè li

No matter if it is a moonless night (night without moonlight)

yě bù néng qīng yì de bì shàng yan jīng

Also unable to close my eyes easily (a restless night)

yīn wéi ni huì chū xiàn zài tiān kōng huò xīn li

Because you will appear to me in the sky or my heart

bù néng zài yí wàng wú jìn de dì fang

No matter I am at a place as far as the eyes can see (endless place)

yě bù néng zuān jìn le yōng ji rén qún

And yet unable to enter a huge noisy crowd

yīn wéi jì bù jì mò dōu huì tí xing wo

Because lonely or not, it will remind me that

wo shī qù le wo bú gòu ài de ni

I have lost you, I didn't love you enough

[repeat]
